Ivan Yohan’s affinity for vocal and choral music dates back to his student days at the Parahyangan Catholic University, where he was a member of the University Choir. During his undergraduate course in accountancy, Ivan studied voice privately with Catharina W. Leimena, Avip Priatna, Binu D. Soekaman, Rachelle Gerodias and Christopher Abimanyu. He also studied conducting with Avip Priatna and Jonathan Velasco.
 
In 2002, Ivan was chosen as one of the Indonesian delegates to the Asian Youth Choir (Japan), directed by Seiko Hazegawa and Hakwoon Yoon. This honour was bestowed upon him again in 2006 and 2007, with the choir under the direction of Chifuru Matsubara, Saeko Hazegawa and Hakwon Yoon. He has been chorus master of Mascagni's "Cavaleria Rusticana" and Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas", including the Parahyangan Catholic University Choir's production of the latter. As a singer, he has performed Handel's "Messiah", First Sailor in the aforementioned Purcell opera and Sanjaya in the Indonesian opera, "Kali" by Tony Prabowo.
 
After completing his accounting degree, Ivan moved to Holland for his bachelor studies in classical singing. He studied voice at the Utrecht Conservatory with Henny Diemer and took composition lessons from Henk Alkema. He then pursued a master’s degree in choral conducting with Rob Vermeulen at the same conservatory. As part of his studies, Ivan completed a student exchange programme in Lithuania, where he studied choral conducting with Vytautas Miškinis and vocal performance with Algirdas Janutas. In his native Indonesia, Ivan is a conductor and music director for the Parahyangan Catholic University Choir (PCUC). In 2014, he conducted PCUC at the 51st International Choir Competition in Spittal an der Drau, Austria, and led the ensemble achieve the first prize and receive special commendation for best interpretation of a modern piece. 
 
In 2016, Ivan founded SWARA, a Brussels-based choral ensemble committed to the promotion and performance of modern a cappella repertoire. That same year, Ivan earned the "Special Award for Excellent Conducting Performance" at the Béla-Bartók 27th International Choir Competition in Debrecen, Hungary.
 
Ivan is also an accomplished composer whose choral compositions have been performed in concerts and choir competitions in Asia, Europe and the United States. In May 2011, he won the first prize of "Prix pour une oeuvre de création - Concours international" for his composition "Après un Rêve" at Florilège Vocal de Tours 2011, France. Some of his works have been published by Porfiri & Horváth Publishers (Germany), Earthsongs (United States) and Miela Harmonija (Lithuania/Japan).
     
 
Lahir di Bandung, 1975, Ivan Yohan mulai tertarik di bidang vokal dan musik paduan suara ketika beliau menjadi anggota Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Universitas Katolik Parahyangan (PSM Unpar). Selama periode menekuni bidang akuntansi ini beliau mengasah bidang olah vokal di bawah bimbingan Catharina W. Leimena, Avip Priatna, Binu D. Soekaman, Rachelle Gerodias dan Christopher Abimanyu. Ia pun menekuni bidang choir conducting di bawah bimbingan Avip Priatna dan Jonathan Velasco.
 
Pada tahun 2002, 2006 dan 2009 beliau terpilih sebagai salah satu delegasi Indonesia untuk Asian Youth Choir (Jepang) di bawah pimpinan Chifuru Matsubara, Saeko Hazegawa dan Hakwon Yoon. Sebagai chorus master, beliau telah menggarap opera Henry Purcell “Dido & Aeneas” yang diproduksi oleh PSM Unpar dimana beliau pun menjadi dirigen dalam pelaksanaannya, dan dalam opera Pietro Mascagni berjudul "Cavaleria Rusticana". Pengalaman beliau sebagai penyanyi termasuk di antaranya adalah sebagai salah satu penyanyi solo dalam produksi "Messiah" karya G.F. Handel yang dipimpin oleh Avip Priatna, sebagai "First Sailor" dalam opera Henry Purcell tersebut di atas yang diselenggarakan oleh Jakarta Conservatory of Music dan sebagai "Sanjaya" dalam opera karya Tony Prabowo berjudul "Kali".
 
Setelah menyelesaikan studinya di bidang akuntansi, beliau melanjutkan studinya di bidang musik dengan mengambil jurusan vokal di Belanda, Utrecht Conservatory, di mana beliau dibimbing oleh Henny Diemer dan menekuni bidang komposisi dibimbing oleh Henk Alkema. Lalu beliau meneruskan studinya di bidang choir conducting dengan bimbingan Rob Vermeulen. Pada tahun 2013 beliau memperoleh kesempatan untuk melakukan pertukaran pelajar Erasmus ke Vilnius, Lituania, di mana beliau mendapatkan bimbingan intensif dalam jurusan choir conducting oleh Vytautas Miškinis dan dalam jurusan vokal oleh Algirdas Janutas. Di Indonesia, beliau adalah conductor dan music director Parahyangan Catholic University Choir (PCUC). Tahun 2014 beliau memimpin PSM Unpar dengan berpartisipasi dalam kompetisi "51th Spittal International Choir Competition" di Spittal an der Drau, Austria, dan mendapat penghargaan juara I untuk kategori Mixed Choir dan mendapat penghargaan interpretasi lagu kontemporer terbaik. 
 
Pada awal tahun 2016 beliau mendirikan Swara Vocal Ensemble di Brussels, Belgia, yang merupakan paduan suara profesional dengan tujuan mempromosikan terutama karya-karya paduan suara kontemporer tanpa iringan.  Di tahun yang sama, beliau meraih penghargaan “Special Award for Excellent Conducting Performance” pada “Béla-Bartók 27th International Choir Competition 2016” di Debrecen, Hungaria.
 
Dalam bidang komposisi, beliau telah menciptakan berbagai lagu sakral dan sekular untuk paduan suara, dan beberapa karyanya telah diterbitkan oleh penerbit Earthsongs (Amerika Serikat), Porfiri & Horváth (Jerman) dan Miela Harmonija (Lituania/Jepang). Beliau mendapat penghargaan lagu baru terbaik "Prix pour une oeuvre de création - Concours international" untuk karyanya berjudul "Après un rêve" pada kompetisi "Florilège Vocal de Tours 2011" di Perancis.
