    CATEGORIES

    Any choir participants with at least 16 singers (members) are allowed to join any categories, except for Vocal Group & A-capella categories which the requirement for the number of singers at least 8 and at most 16 singers. Number of songs to be performed in each category is 2 and Performance Time for each category is 10 minutes.

    Amplification is allowed for all program songs in Pop & Jazz and Vocal Group & A-capella category.

    CATEGORY REGULATIONS

    CATEGORY 1 to 7

    • The choice of the program songs must be suitable with the singers’ characteristics and age. Consider the difficulty level as well in order to give the best performance.
    • Please remember about the age limit. If there are singers above or under the age limit requirements, there’s a tolerance of 10% from the total singers in each category.
    • For example, if your choir is a Teenager’s Choir with 22 singers, you have 10% age tolerance which is 2. It means you are allowed to have 2 members above or below the age limit, but the rest of the members must meet the age limit criteria.

    MUSIC OF RELIGIONS // 8

    • Program songs refer to religious music from any religions (Moslem, Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, Orthodox, etc.)
    • Program songs belong to Musica Sacra and Gospel & Spiritual categories are not allowed to be performed in this category.

    MUSICA SACRA // 9

    • Program songs in this category refer to sacred music from ancient times until today.
    • Popular Christian songs as well as Gospel & Spiritual music are not allowed to be performed in this category.
    • Choir participants must perform one song from any composer/arranger born before 1900 and one more song from any composer/arranger born after 1900.

    SPIRITUAL // 10

    • Program songs in this category refer to spiritual music tradition Afro-America.
    • Modern gospel music and African Folksong are not allowed to be performed in this category. 

    FOLKLORE // 11

    • Program songs in this category must be local traditional song/folk song adapted for choir performance.
    • Folk songs from the origin place of the participants are recommended to be performed in this category.
    • Choir participants must submit the music scores with notes about origin of the songs in English.

    POP & JAZZ // 12

    • Any kind of Pop or Jazz songs are allowed to be performed in this category.
    • Participants are allowed to provide extra musical instruments by themselves.

    VOCAL GROUP & A-CAPELLA // 13

    • Participants are allowed to provide extra musical instruments by themselves.
    • Participants are also allowed to use Vocal Percussion, Body Percussion, or Beat-boxer.

    GENERAL REGULATIONS

    PARTICIPATION

    • MWCF-2020 is open for all choirs or vocal group from Indonesia and abroad.
    • Please read carefully the conditions related to each category: total singers, age limit, performance time, total music programs, voice and song type, etc.
    • Choreography is allowed but not mandatory.
    • The number of participants on stage should not exceed the amount paid in the event package. The committee has the right to disqualify the participants without any refund if there is a difference in the number of participants.

    INSTRUMENTS

    • The committee will only provide an acoustic piano.
    • Any choir participants which will use additional musical instruments have to inform the committee by an e-mail to info@bandungchoral.com before July 21st, 2020. If there’s no confirmation email, the additional music instruments are not allowed to use during the performance.
    • Only 3 instruments without definite pitch (at most) is allowed to use except for categories such as Folklore and Pop & Jazz, where there is no limitation.

    PROGRAM SONGS

    • The data of the program songs must be sent to the committee no later than April 21st, 2020.
    • After the data is sent, all the program songs MUST be approved by the Artistic Committee. Any program songs NOT approved by the committee MUST be changed immediately.
    • If the choir participants are performing non-English songs, it is advised to provide the information about the origin of the music and song description in English.
    • Any choir participants performing in more than 1 (one) category have to perform different songs in each category.
    • It is strongly recommended to choose program songs with different contrasts in order to show the best artistic quality of your choir.
    • If the program songs selected are more suitable in another category (than the category selected by the participants), the committee will inform the participants to move the choir to more appropriate category.
    • The program songs selected must be original choral work and not the reduction from orchestra.

    MUSIC SCORES

    • Music Scores must be sent to the committee no later than July 21st, 2020. We strongly advise to send it as soon as possible because it will affect participants’ evaluation on stage.
    • Participants have to submit 5 (five) original music scores for each songs with the license from the composer/arranger.
    • Any choir participants performing with the piano MUST send the music score for the piano accompaniment as well. Especially for Musica Sacra & Gospel Spiritual.
    • If the original music score couldn’t be provided, participants must at least provide the receipt of the music score from the publisher (not reseller) as many as the choir members on stage.
    • Choir participants must also provide the license or permit from the composer/arranger (written or with original signature). It is strongly advised to buy original music scores. The committee is not responsible for any copy of the scores used.
    • All the music score must be taken by the choir participants before Meet The Juries session. There won’t be any delivery service if the participants didn’t take the music score after the event.
    • All the COPYRIGHT of songs sung in the competition is the responsibility of the choir participants. The committee is not responsible for the copyright of songs performed to the respective composer/arranger.

    PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES

    For comfort and safety, please pay attention to the following regulations:

    • Choir participants must inform the committee if using additional property for performance by e-mail to info@bandungchoral.com no later than July 21st 2020. If there’s no confirmation email, the additional music instruments are not allowed to use during the performance.
    • Not allowed to do performances using big fire, smoke element, or any sharp objects in the performance hall.
    • Any dangerous property used during the performance is full responsibility of the participants.

    PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE & STAGE REHEARSAL

    • The main purpose of Stage Rehearsal is to get the visual and hear the acoustic of stage, standing position for voice and visual quality during the performance, or check the sound for the categories with amplifications.
    • Strongly advised not to practice all the program songs during Stage Rehearsal.
    • The schedule for the Stage Rehearsal will be created according to the flight detail data which has to be sent before June 15th, 2020.
    • The schedule and the venue will be informed 1 (one) month before the event starts.
    • The duration for the Stage Rehearsal is only 10 minutes per category and the participants are not allowed to reschedule with any reasons once the final schedule is confirmed.

    PERFORMANCE TIME & EVALUATION

    Performance Time is the duration from the sounding of the first tone until the last tone is sounded, including the pauses between songs. If choir participant exceeds the time specified, the total score will be reduced by 1 (one) point multiplied by the number of minutes exceed.

    The competition will use a scoring system based on the following criteria:

    A. Intonation
    C. Fidelity to the Score

    ARTISTIC EVALUATION
    B. Sound Quality
    D. Overall Artistic Impression

    Final score is the total value of the average value of each jury (minus the penalty, if there’s any). The decision of the jury is final and cannot be contested.

    REGISTRATION

    For the effectivity of time arrangement, one choir participant is only allowed to register in maximum 3 (three) categories. For the registration for other non-competition/education activities, please contact the committee by e-mail or WhatsApp.

    REGISTRATION FEE:

    • EARLY BIRD PROMOTION
      Registered participants no later than December 2nd, 2019 and have paid full payment before February 2nd, 2020 will receive 100% cash back for 1 (one) category.
    • Regular Registration
      USD 250 per category for registered participants no later than March 2nd, 2020.

    • Late Registration – 1
      USD 350 per category for registered participants after March 2nd, 2020 no later than May 2nd, 2020.
    • Late Registration – 2
      USD 350 per category for registered participants after May 2nd, 2020 no later than July 2nd, 2020.

    REGISTRATION PROCEDURES:

    1. Submit the following documents by e-mail to info@bandungchoral.com:
      • Registration form that has been filled.
      • Payment receipt for the registration fee with subject ”MWCF - Choir’s Name”
    2. Once your registration is confirmed by the committee, please send the following documents via email:
      • Latest choir’s photo, landscape, (1:2) minimum size 2MB 300 dpi.
      • Latest Conductor photo, Close up minimum size 2MB, 300 dpi.
      • Choir biography in maximum 150 words.
      • Payment receipt of event package.
      • Audio recording/ link YouTube of choir performance from the last two years.
    3. Following documents MUST be sent by email no later than April 21st, 2020.
      • Soft copy of program songs performed.
      • List of members detailed information (full name, date of birth with age, phone number/WhatsApp).
    4. Once you received the confirmation from the Artistic Committee, following documents MUST be sent by air mail service no later than July 21st, 2020:
      - 5 hard copies original music score with composer/arranger license.
      OR
      - 5 hard copies  music scores from free website.
